Darrell Thompson is the President of Bolder OptionsSM, an innovative organization focused on healthy youth development. Uniting one-on-one mentoring with goal setting, physical activity, tutoring, and leadership opportunities the program builds confidence, maximizes potential, and encourages healthy life skills in 10-14 year-olds. Darrell Thompson is a respected leader in the youth development field having been with Bolder Options for 21 years. As President, Thompson has grown the organization which engaged over 2700 kids in the St. Paul, Minneapolis, and Rochester metropolitan areas in 2014. He leads a professional staff and volunteers as they work to achieve Bolder Options’ mission: Teaching youth to succeed in ALL of life’s races.
Laura Lewis, Development Director, is focused on increasing contributed revenue to help sustain and grow Bolder Options’ youth programs. She brings 20 years of fundraising experience that includes running a successful fundraising consulting business for 15 years.
Laura believes that everyone should experience the benefits of having a mentor – especially when they are young. She has worked with more than a dozen youth-focused nonprofits in the Twin Cities and is very excited to be part of the Bolder Options team.

Morgan Tuohy is a graduate of UW-LaCrosse and received her bachelor’s degree in psychology with a minor in interpersonal communications. In school, she conducted research, studying the effects of brainwave entrainment on anxiety levels in college students. She enjoys traveling and anything related to music. She is passionate about helping others and is excited to bring this passion with her to Bolder Options as the Development Associate.
Mark Forsberg – Offensive Coordinator, has a goal to increase the monthy revenue stream for Bolder Options that will help build long term growth and sustainability. Mark’s “GIFT to GAB” will help serve that goal. Remember to never say “NO” to Mark as to him this means “NEW OPPORTUNITY” and he will be back. His single dailly response to “How are you doing” is “Living the Dream” which means he is extremely happy to be with Bolder Options after volunteer fundraising for 5 years.

Sarah has a Masters of Special Education and previously taught high school Special Education and English inclusion in both South Minneapolis and Washington, D.C.. Shortly after leaving the formal classroom, she melded her sense of adventure with a love of education by creating a K-12 curriculum that was implemented in classrooms across the country and which followed her as she canoed down the Mississippi River. Sarah is extremely excited to be working with Bolder Options because she loves inspiring young people, being active, and fostering strong, lasting relationships.

Joey Robillard has degrees in both exercise science and public health with an emphasis in physical activity in public health. He has spent the last 5 years in the fitness industry working with individuals in 1-on-1 settings, group settings, and in corporate wellness helping to create a healthy lifestyle for team members at corporate offices. Joey’s passion for fitness with youth stems from his personal background as a baseball and bowling coach as well playing (or attempting to play) any sport he could get into! As the fitness coordinator, Joey is excited for the opportunity to increase healthy lifestyle choices for youth, as well as create a fun, positive mindset for being active and trying new forms of physical activity!
Lucy Bossert has a bachelor’s degree in dietetics with a focus on public health nutrition. She has spent the last five years exploring the broad realm of food and nutrition through a variety of experiences. From two years of AmeriCorps service teaching families how to cook healthy on a budget to traveling around the country interning on farms, there’s nothing she enjoys more than sharing her love of being active in the outdoors, eating healthy, cooking and gardening. As the Health and Wellness Program Coordinator at Bolder Options she’s very excited to make lasting lifestyle changes with the youth of the Twin Cities through facilitating a positive experience with physical activity, nutritious food, and healthy relationships

Xavier Vazquez has a bachelor’s degree in biology with a focus on pre-medicine. He studied mechanical engineering for 4 years at the University of Puerto Rico, but decided to pursue another career and moved to Minnesota in June 17 of 2017 after he obtained his biology degree at the Universidad del Turabo of Puerto Rico. He is always willing to try new things and definitely up for adventures and new challenges. He enjoys playing baseball/softball, running, biking, camping, fishing, drawing, spending time with his furry “daughter” (Marie the puppy) and everything else that piques his adventurous spirit. As the Alumni Program Coordinator he motivates pairs to stay engaged with Bolder Options after they graduate the one-year program and goes the extra mile to ensure the alumni get exposed to the most fun and adventurous activities his creative mind can dream up!
As the academic program coordinator at Bolder Options, Andrea is able to combine her passions for children’s rights, youth empowerment, and education. Throughout her life, Andrea has witnessed how education, inside and outside the classroom, opens worlds of opportunity. She is excited to develop programming that supports youth in achieving academic success, which derives in them a sense of accomplishment, pride, curiosity, and leads them to become lifelong eager learners.
Andrea has bachelor’s degrees in Economics and International Studies and is currently a doctoral student at Clemson University’s International Family and Community Studies program.
Scott was drawn to Bolder Options because of the unique program structure- “My background is as an educator so I appreciate that our curriculum not only focuses on encouraging a healthy lifestyle but also a commitment to learning. Bolder Options emphasizes that learning is a lifelong process that gives children the tools to be successful in the classroom and also provides opportunities for success in life.”
Sarah Schaller comes to Bolder Options with many years of experience in youth and family programming. She has also been involved with the foster care system as a parent, respite provider and child advocate.
Sarah is thrilled to be joining the Rochester team. “I love that Bolder Options places so much emphasis on helping youth foster positive relationships both with their families and in the community. Sarah enjoys music, theatre, hiking and creatively thinking outside of the box. “When given the opportunity for any adventure, count me in!”
Carla Anderson earned her Elementary Ed degree from Winona State. She is passionate about living a healthy lifestyle and loves sharing that enthusiasm with others. Carla enjoys all things travel, outdoor adventure, fitness/wellness, creativity and especially time with family. She comes to Bolder Options with firsthand knowledge and experience of our program as a graduated mentor, and is excited to collaborate to help make a larger impact on our community’s youth.
