On September 14th, Ryan Foss, Bolder Options' Donor Relations Director, began his significant journey to run across Minnesota. He made this goal to mark his
50th birthday. His goal was to raise at least $20,000 dollars, recruit mentors and and create awareness for Bolder Options Youth Mentoring Program.
He started on the side of the road near Marietta, Minnesota on Highway 212. From there he ran on many dirt roads, passing farm field after farm field witnessing the sun rise and often seeing the sun setting. Running around 20 miles a day, Ryan dodged dogs, listened to hours of podcasts, took care of his blistered feet and used lots of sunscreen.
After 90.5 miles of gravel, Ryan hooked up with the Luce Line trail for 63 miles. He then ran through the streets of downtown Minneapolis before finishing on the Gateway Trail towards the Lift Bridge in Stillwater. The total distance was 193.21 miles!
Who is this guy?
Ryan has been involved with Bolder Options since 2004, serving in various roles including mentor, board member, Director of Volunteer and Community Relations and Director of Development before stepping away to pursue other roles in 2010. Most recently, Ryan was an Analyst for the State Department where he monitored economic, financial and trade trends in Thailand at the U.S. Embassy Bangkok. After a 13 year gap, Ryan is back serving as Bolder Options' Donor Relations Director.
His extensive involvement reflects his deep commitment to Bolder Options and its mission. Ryan is a former chef and donates his skills through our Bolder Bash live auction. In 2024 he raised $27,000 through those auction items. Through the BOLD RUN, he has raised $21,980 (so far) that directly supports programs that help young people develop life skills and receive mentorship. It's inspiring just to be around him.
As Ryan finished his journey, the community came together to support him. People contributed through donations, sharing information about Bolder Options and becoming a mentors. The BOLD RUN was proudly sponsored by Industrial Procurement Services, Affinity Plus Federal Credit Union, and Wildflower Stores, which helped make his journey possible. Ryan’s journey is a reminder of the positive impact we can all have in our communities.
