Position Title: Volunteer Tutor
The tutoring program will provide math, reading and experiential academic enrichment for students falling behind in school. We provide transportation for students from Nellie Stone Johnson and Jefferson Community Middle School to our Minneapolis office where we provide a 2-3 hour program of one-to-one tutoring, group tutoring and experiential learning activities.
Major Responsibilities:
- Working closely with youth in reading and math
- Helping youth work through problems through encouragement
Qualifications:
Required
- A desire to work with youth ages 10-14
- Academic knowledge through eighth grade
- Commitment to showing up Tuesdays and/or Thursdays from 3:00pm – 6:30pm OR 3:00pm-4:15pm Or 5:15pm-6:30pm for at least a semester or the full academic year (Sept. – May )
- Pass criminal background check
- Attend a one session training prior to start date

Supervisor: Tutoring Program Coordinator:
- Tutor will notify supervisor immediately of any concerns that have come up concerning youth or any other important happenings
- Supervisor will check in with tutor weekly before each session to lay out the day’s plan
Time Commitment: 1.5 – 6 hours a week
